Mark Wear

Cumbria Police

I was born and brought up in Whitehaven, and after leaving school I completed an apprenticeship with British Nuclear Fuels before serving in the Royal Air Force.

In 1992 I joined Cumbria Constabulary and have spent the majority of my career working in and managing neighbourhood policing teams in west Cumbria, including Whitehaven. In 2002 I was named nationally as the Community Police Officer of the Year and in 2004 I was awarded a Queen’s Police Medal in the New Years Honours - both for services to community policing, as a result of the work I had carried out in Whitehaven including with the residents of the Mirehouse Estate.

From 2005 I was part of a team working with the Home Office advising on the delivery of neighbourhood policing and tackling anti social behaviour. After promotion in 2007 I have spent my service managing teams in Workington and Whitehaven as a Neighbourhood Inspector.

In my spare time I enjoy cycling, woodworking and getting out and about in the western Lake District

In Well Whitehaven I will be working with the Mirehouse community to enable them to develop and deliver their ideas and plans to improve health, wellbeing and aspirations of those living on the Mirehouse estate.
